Santa Claus, whose origins are simultaneously Christian and Pagan, is now one of the most recognisable characters ever, with his white beard and red suit. He is the Spirit of Christmas, embodying generosity and devotion, delivering gifts to the young and young at heart and, always a saint at heart, there have been some lovely depictions of him bending his knee at the manger of the Christ Child.
